NEW AND OLD

Most of us have heard the old saying, “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” - the traditional Old English rhyme of wedding day superstitions. The rhyme refers primarily to what should be brought into a new union to make it successful, but the saying hints at something more universal: both the old and the new are vital to our outlook and our success. Today, we look at pieces of Marion Design Co. from the past and the present: projects, awards, new staff, and goodbyes. We’re thankful for the experiences and the knowledge we’ve gained so far, and look forward to what else is in store going forward.

Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to, and what lies ahead.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT | 03.31.25

SHE GIVES BRAND

She Gives is a community of caring, faithful women leveraging their unique strengths and generosity to create impactful, lasting change, build a legacy beyond themselves, and inspire hope through selfless acts and collective action.

We worked with She Gives to develop their Name, Design Thinking, and Brand Identity. The She Gives logo visually embodies this mission. Designed with a bold combination of contrasting “S” and “G” shapes, the mark forms the silhouette of a figure with outstretched arms—dynamic, open, and in motion. This represents both the act of giving and the strength found in community. The fluid design reflects movement and ambition, a reminder that generosity is not stagnant but an ongoing, transformative force. This symbol stands for connection, impact, and a shared commitment to something greater than ourselves.

CULTURE OF GOOD AWARD | 05.22.25

MDC RECEIVES CULTURE OF GOOD AWARD

In mid-May, our team hopped onto a virtual award ceremony with Ryan McCarty, co-founder of Culture of Good, along with twenty-one other organizations from across the nation. We were honored to receive the Culture of Good’s Community Impact Award, a prestigious award bestowed upon those who treat community impact as a key part of who they are and how they operate.

We are incredibly thankful that our efforts to revive, empower, and propel people and places forward have been recognized and affirmed by others in our community. Wendy spoke on receiving the award, stating, “Good doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It requires partnerships with communities who believe in the culture of good.”

It’s an honor to do good work with great partners by our side!

MINI MASTERCLASSES | 05.08.25

PROCREATE MINI MASTERCLASS

We had our final Mini Masterclass of the spring season, finishing off strong with a dive into art making. Misty gave the team a hands-on look into Procreate, the go-to application for creating digital art on an iPad. Most of us were already familiar with the program, but we were introduced to some of Procreate’s more in-depth tools and abilities, such as layer modes, photo editing, custom brushes, animation, digital painting processes, and more! Understanding the tools at our disposal is key to creating great work, and we’re sure many of us will be using this tool more and more in the future!

MDC STORE | 05.24.25

CHIC MERCANTILE MARKET

Wendy and Misty took the MDC store to its first ever market- and what a success! Chic Mercantile’s “Race Into Summer” market took place Memorial Day Weekend, featuring vendors, crafts, food trucks, and more. We rolled up to the Chic Mercantile parking lot bright and early, set our products out, and enjoyed the wonderful weather as community members strolled through with their families. We saw lots of familiar faces, and introduced new people to Marion Design Co., Kennedy Art Center, and the downtown. It was also a huge success for our store- we had to plan for a restock of our inventory as soon as we returned to the studio! Thank you to everyone who came out, and we hope to make the store mobile again in the future!
