INSPIRATION
Inspiration comes in many forms, and this past month, we had the chance to explore several. Whether it was a project that deepened our understanding, a topic close to our hearts, or simply the everyday moments that invited us to slow down and notice—we found ourselves energized, curious, and creatively refreshed.
Our clients inspire us every day. We begin our newsletter storytelling introducing a long, rich relationship with Service Power. During a recent team trip to Chicago, we were inspired by the art that was bountiful in the city- the collection at the Art Institute of Chicago and the architecture of Millennium Park’s Pritzker Pavilion come to mind. From our most recent gallery show, we’ve been inspired by the work and inventiveness of the artists. And for our most recent intern, we look at the inspiration she took from this new experience, and the inspiration we took from her in return.
Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to, and what lies ahead.

SERVICE POWER
Ongoing design partnerships give us the joy of being a creative team on call—ready to bring ideas to life whenever our clients need them. Our relationship with Service Power has been especially meaningful, allowing us to create a wide range of graphic design that supports their brand. Earlier this year, we had the privilege of designing their brand guidelines, and we love carrying those standards through every piece we create together. The Brand Guideline updates incorporate color, type, and key graphic assets and imagery improvements which give us more latitude to help them deliver a consistent brand experience beyond just their services. The New Employee Handbook is a substantial document that now incorporates their personality into one of the first items their employees receive. This design imbues this constant resource with vibrance and vitality and helps every team member understand their work within the bigger picture of their mission: to create delightful field service experiences.

MDC TEAM CHICAGO TRIP
MDC In Chicago! Last month, the Marion Design Co. team took a well-deserved retreat to Chicago for a few days of inspiration, connection, and creativity. We explored the stunning galleries of the Art Institute of Chicago, soaking in some of the world's greatest works of art. Later, we were enchanted by the magic of Beauty and the Beast at Broadway in Chicago. It was an unforgettable performance that left us in awe.
More than just a change of scenery, this retreat gave us the chance to step outside of our day-to-day rhythms and connect on a deeper level. We shared stories, laughs, and meaningful conversations that reminded us why we do what we do. It reminded us that sometimes meaningful work happens not only at our desk, but also in the moments we share and the stories we tell.

CELEBRATE SAQA INDIANA II: QUILTING AS AN ART OPENING RECEPTION
In mid July, we welcomed a crowd of quilters, artists, and supportive community members into the gallery for our most recent opening reception. We had nearly fifty guests within the building, which is more than how many quilts we have hanging! Part of the magic of the night was hearing from all of the quilters in attendance as they spoke about their work- from inspirations in nature and conservation, prompts for themed shows and collaborations between mediums, and some artists who just wanted to try something new.
After the talks, our team and the crowd enjoyed lovely charcuterie and treats provided by Beth Leckron of the Marion Arts Commission, and spent the second half of the night socializing with the artists and guests. We also heard from Matt Wilson, director of the Marion Arts Commission, as he introduced the show and made connections between the comfort evoked in the quilting art and that which is provided in a mother’s love. There were also several references to Safety Monitor, 2023 by quilter Amy O’Connell - his favorite quilt of the show. Stop in to see it (and the rest of the quilts) during our open hours, as this exhibition will be open until September 10th!
And don’t forget to mark your calendars for our next gallery events! September 19th is the next MAC Gala, and October 3rd will be the opening night of the following exhibition, People Make Place.

FAREWELL TO SAVANNAH
As summer vacation comes to a close and schools open their doors for another semester, it’s time for us to say goodbye to another one of our valued team members in the studio. Over these past three months, our summer design intern Savannah Byars has played an instrumental role in our design work as we seek to propel people and places forward. Her dedication to her work, intentionality in relationships, and enthusiasm for others will be missed.
Savannah, the MDC team wishes you all of the best as you begin your senior year at Anderson University. We are looking forward to working with you remotely on occasion while hearing about all of your future endeavors as you enter this next stage of life!
SLŌ | 09.05.2025
SLŌ: KOREA
Marion Design Co’s mission has always been to revive, propel, and empower local community. Each event we create is shaped by this mission. Slō has become a beautiful expression of that intent—using design to craft meaningful, memorable experiences that bring people together. Slō is a series of dinners that invites local chefs to experiment with new menus while offering the community a refined, shared dining experience. Born from Wendy’s own love of cooking, Slō is rooted in a simple belief: gathering around a table is one of the most powerful symbols of community.
Wendy will take the lead as chef for Slō: Korea, bringing her heritage to the table in a deeply personal way. This event holds special meaning as it weaves together her love of cooking with a heartfelt reconnection to her Korean roots. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Indiana Wesleyan University’s People and Culture office, tickets for this Slō supper are just $25—rather than the usual $65. With only a few seats remaining, now’s the time to reserve your spot at the table!
