EMPATHY
MAP

A diagram titled 'Think & Feel' divided into four quadrants labeled Hear, See, Say & Do, and Think & Feel. The diagram includes questions under each category about emotions, environment, behaviors, and perceptions, with additional sections labeled Pains on the bottom left and Gains on the bottom right.

The Empathy Map helps us understand situations with curiosity. It works best if we intentionally put ourselves in the persona’s position. To better understand your audience’s emotions, zero in on the moment they’re actually experiencing the problem.

The goal is to explore the needs of the user. Think in terms of verbs, not nouns. This keeps our focus on activities for which the user engages rather than solutions.
