EMPATHY
MAP

The Empathy Map helps us understand our customers with curiosity. It works best if we intentionally put ourselves in the persona’s position. To better understand your audience’s emotions, zero in on the moment they’re actually experiencing the pain point that they’re coming to you to solve.

The goal is to explore the needs of the user. Think in terms of verbs, not nouns. This keeps our focus on activities for which the user engages rather than solutions.

PERSONA PROFILE

With the data collected from the Empathy Map, create a Persona Profile to help shape their characteristics. Give them a name and describe their needs, goals, and traits.

Create a unique persona for each demographic of customer you serve so that multiple perspectives are represented.

SIX WORD MEMOIR

Legend has it that Ernest Hemingway was once challenged to write a story in only six words. His response? “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” Larry Smith took the concept a step further and explained that anything in life can be summarized in six words.

Write 6 - Six-word memoirs in the blanks provided to describe the problem your business is attempting to solve. Each line is an opportunity to rework your problem statement to be as accurate as possible to address the key problem your services address.

Think quickly! Proper grammar not required!

ASSUMPTION MAP

On sticky notes, write down one assumption per note. Think about things we might assume are true for your client—but may never have been tested or questioned. There are no right or wrong answers. As you finish each sticky note, plot it on the matrix according to how probable the assumption is and the level of risk the assumption carries.

The purpose of this exercise is to uncover hidden assumptions about how your service or product is perceived and operates—especially from the perspective of your users and stakeholders.

If we could help you test just one of these assumptions to reduce risk and accelerate growth, which would you choose?
Our design thinking process is built for moments just like this.
